  • Waterfalls of the Highlands
    Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Limited edition of 10 lathe cut 7inch vinyl in glorious mono! Great retro sleeve.

Side A: Inchree Falls, Inchree, near Onich and Fort William

The Inchree Falls is a series of waterfalls totaling several hundred feet. The Falls are situated on the Abhainn Righ
river that runs into Loch Linnhe in the picturesque Western Highlands. The first recording is the most distant
sound capture of the three; it was made whilst approaching the falls, along a pathway that started from the Glen
Righ Forest carpark. This path meets the lower falls, where I made the second recording. Climbing higher alongside
the river I eventually reached the two highest falls and was in a great position to capture the sound of this, with
the lower falls in the background. There had been extensive rainfall at the time of the recording so there was
considerable force and volume of falling water.

    Side B:Grey Mare's Waterfall, Kinlochleven

Ten miles west of the Inchree falls is Grey Mare’s Waterfall; Scotland’s 3rd biggest waterfall. Grey Mare’s is a 60
metre cascade in a narrow tree lined gorge. It was named by King Edward VII during his stay at Mamore Lodge in
1909 as it reminded him of his horse’s tail. From the head of the gorge the sound of the waterfall reverberated down
the cliff passage. The surrounding forest provided a great acoustic for recording. In order to get closer to the
waterfall I had to enter a gorge by climbing along the side of the cliff wall. Wooden planks and metal rods had been
bolted to the rock face to enable access to the base of the fall. Once situated here I made the final recording, thus
capturing the surrounding roar and towering soundscape of Grey Mare’s.
